Melbourne could head into the final series without two key playmakers after forward Dean Kent and midfielder Dom Tyson sustaining serious injuries in their clash against Greater Western Sydney.

Kent came off second best in a ground level collision with Giant midfielder Lachie Whitfield, injuring his right shoulder as they contested for the loose ball.

The Demons' spearhead was immediately taken down to the club rooms to be assessed by Melbourne's medical staff.

After suffering a hamstring injury against Richmond in round five, the 24-year-old only returned to Melbourne's senior side in last week's victory over the West Coast.

Meanwhile Tyson endured an injury to his left wrist after being at the receiving end of an accidental kick from Demon ruckman Max Gawn in the second quarter.

The midfielder tried to continue the match but came off to the interchange bench to be assessed by medical staff.

Melbourne announced that the 25-year-old would not return to the field for the remainder of the match.

Tyson's future in the final series is now in doubt as the club suspect that the midfielder has sustained a broken wrist.

Demons forward Jake Melksham passed a concussion test after colliding heads with James Harmes in the first half.

Returning to the field Melksham scored his first goal of the match, pushing the Demons to 100 points.

The Melbourne outfit will host Geelong in an elimation final after thrashing GWS 15.12 (102) to 8.9 (57) at the MCG.
