Greater Western Sydney midfielder Matt de Boer will miss eight weeks with a shoulder injury sustained in the Giants' 23-point win on Sunday.

The 29-year-old injured his shoulder after a crunching tackle from North Melbourne's Ben Cunnington at Blundstone Arena during the third quarter.

De Boer was unable to play out the match, and was subsequently diagnosed with a fractured shoulder.

However, he will not require surgery.

GWS general manager of football Wayne Campbell said that the Giants were disappointed with the injury, but were looking forward to his return near the end of the year.

“This is obviously disappointing for both Matt and the club, particularly after his stellar first half of the year," Campbell said.

“Matt will no doubt attack his rehab with the same dedication and diligence he shows towards all aspects of his football and we look forward to welcoming him back in the second half of the season.”

The Giants will head into the bye this week, before taking on Essendon at Marvel Stadium the following Thursday.
