There's not many things footy fans agree on - but the fact that Marvel Stadium's roof should be shut during day games is one of them.

The roof has been the source of much ire from fans and players alike, and the AFL has announced it is set to be closed for the rest of 2019's day games at the venue.

The AFL will then review the roof's usage at the end of the year, and whether the closure continues indefinitely during day games.

Both Collingwood's Scott Pendlebury and Port's Tom Rockliff took to Twitter earlier this month after the roof was left open during a game between the Blues and the Lions.

The pair were definitely not fans of the decision.

Journalist Sam McClure revealed the news on SEN .

“The AFL executives have just walked out of a meeting and they have decided to close the roof of Marvel Stadium for the rest of the season,” McClure said.

“Day games there, the first of which is this Sunday afternoon at 1:10pm between the Saints and the Tigers. The forecast is 15 (degrees) and sunny at the moment but it will not matter because it will be closed for the rest of the year.

“I think it will be closed permanently but the AFL I think will today announce that they’ll be reviewing that policy at the end of the season.”

The roof closure will affect the following five games:

Round 15: St Kilda v Richmond, 1.10pm AEST

Round 18: Carlton v Gold Coast, 2.10pm AEST

Round 19: Western Bulldogs v Fremantle, 1.10pm AEST

Round 20: Essendon v Port Adelaide, 1.45pm AEST

Round 21: St Kilda v Fremantle, 1.10pm AEST
