North Melbourne's Majak Daw has capped off a big couple of days, announcing he and his partner Emma McKay are expecting their first child.

That news follows Daw taking another significant step in his recovery from injury as he started running again on Monday.

Daw took to Instagram on Tuesday evening with a photo of his and his partner captioned: "Baby Daw coming soon."

McKay shared the same photo with the caption "Pretty happy about our lil friend that’s on the way. Baby Daw due this year."

Daw, 28, was given a rousing applause by his teammates on Monday as he hit the track at Arden St for the first time since he suffered critical injuries following an incident at Melbourne's Bolte Bridge.

The key position player continues to surprise medicos with his rapid recovery from the December incident that saw him fracture his pelvis and hip.

"It's pretty exciting, not going to lie," Daw told the club website upon taking his latest step in his recovery.

Club physio Matthew Turnbull spoke about the progress and the long road the defender still had in front of him.

"It exceeded all expectations and we're extremely happy with what he's been able to achieve in this time," Turnbull said.

"But we also acknowledge that he's got a lot more steps in this rehab process to still get through before he plays."

Daw has played 50 senior games since his 2013 debut and enjoyed a career-best season in 2018 following a switch to the backline.
