Majak Daw injury: North Melbourne star set to avoid surgery on torn pec image

Majak Daw won't have to undergo surgery on the pectoral injury he sustained in the gym last week.

A torn pec can often mean around three months on the sideline, though fortunately for the North Melbourne defender, he should return to the field sooner than that, possibly in just three weeks.

Daw felt a pain on the right side of his chest while doing some weights on Friday afternoon, with scans revealing a tear to his pec.

"Maj was doing his weights program and felt a sharp pain on his right side during a chest exercise," Kangaroos footy manager Brady Rawlings said.

"He was sent for scans and the imaging showed a tear.

"Majak has had an unfortunate run with injury of late but we will support him and ensure he can recover well, and hopefully build up to playing games again this year."

The club provided a positive update on Monday, confirming the 29-year-old wouldn't be going under the knife, with the surgeon telling Daw he may be able to play in three weeks' time.

Daw has played 50 senior games for the Roos but didn't feature at all in 2019 as he recovered from serious injuries to his hips and pelvis suffered in a fall from Melbourne's Bolte Bridge.

He eventually returned at VFL level, featuring in four games before a hamstring injury ended his campaign.

North Melbourne resume their 2020 campaign against the Giants on Sunday, June 14.
