Veteran small forward Lindsay Thomas has called time on his 212-game career following the Power's elimination from finals contention.

Neither Port Adelaide's AFL or SANFL sides qualified for finals, with Thomas spending most of his first and only season at the club in the reserves.

A mercurial left-footer, Thomas spent most of his career at North Melbourne, kicking 325 goals from his 205 games.

He often found himself on the wrong side of the officials as well as opposition fans, his competitive nature seeing him suspended several times throughout his career.

The 30-year-old moved from the Roos to Port via the rookie draft at the end of last season, playing seven senior games in 2018.

"I made the decision to retire yesterday after speaking with my family and my manager," Thomas said.

"It just felt right to finish my career today where my senior career started at Port Adelaide.

"I started my junior career in 2004 with Port Adelaide SANFL captain Steven Summerton and to be able to share our retirements today was amazing."

“I thank North Melbourne who took a punt on me in 2006 and really embraced me and my family. I had an amazing eleven-year career there and I can’t thank them enough.

“And then to come home and finish my career here at Port Adelaide, where it all started, makes me feel very blessed."

Thomas topped North Melbourne's goalkicking in 2010 and 2013.
