GWS midfielder Josh Kelly has reportedly agreed a contract extension with the club, knocking back significant interest from his native Victoria.

The left-footer is due to come out of contract at the end of the season and has been at the centre of plenty of speculation about his future.

Though now it appears the Giants have retained their man, with Channel Seven reporter Mark Stevens suggesting an announcement on the new deal will come after this weekend's match.

Kelly is no stranger to speculation around his future, having signed a two-year deal in 2017 while fielding big-money offers, particularly from North Melbourne.

The 24-year-old's father Phil played 61 games with the Kangaroos in the early 80s and they again went hard at the star this time around.

"Kelly was chased by a raft of Victorian club, including North Melbourne, who led the way with the family connection," Stevens said.

"I have strong mail that Kelly has agreed to stay at the Giants, an announcement is imminent, there's a feeling it will be official once Kelly gets this week's clash with Richmond out of the way."

Kelly has missed the Giants' opening two games in 2019 as he continues to be eased back from off-season surgery but is expected to face the Tigers this Saturday.

The smooth-moving midfielder has played 100 games at the Giants since being taken at pick two in the 2013 draft.

Kelly isn't the only Giant attracting rival attention, with fellow midfield gun Stephen Coniglio also out of contract at the end of the season.
