John Longmire: North Melbourne have made a call, says Liam Pickering image

John Longmire's manager has confirmed that he has received a call from North Melbourne.

The Kangaroos are on the hunt for their next head coach after they sacked Brad Scott following the Roos' poor start to the year.

One of the names that has been thrown in the air has been that of Sydney coach Longmire, who won a premiership with North Melbourne in 1999.

While Longmire is still under contract with the Swans until the end of 2020, the Kangaroos are still reportedly showing interest in the 48-year-old.

Liam Pickering, Longmire's manager, told SEN Tuesday morning that he had indeed recieved contact from North Melbourne.

“I’ve had a call from North,” Pickering said.

“I’m not really that surprised that I’ve had a discussion. I thought it would come and I got a phone call from the president."

There have been reports that North are aleady set to offer Longmire a monster deal, worth around $12 million.

Longmire played over 200 games with the Kangaroos, and was an instrumental part in their 1999 flag.

Since then, he has held the Sydney coaching position since 2011, making every finals series since, and winning the 2012 Grand Final.

The current Kangaroos coach is Rhyce Shaw, who is holding the interim job, but the Kangaroos have shown considerable improvement under him, winning two of their last three games.

North are not the only club looking for a head coach, with Carlton also seeking somebody to replace the sacked Brendon Bolton, whilst some believe that incumbent Hawthorn coach Alastair Clarkson could take that job.
