GWS have added significant football nous to their board with Geelong premiership player and Brownlow medallist Jimmy Bartel joining as football director.
Bartel will be remain in Melbourne but will act as the link between the football department and the board.
The 35-year-old has held a number of positions at football clubs and in the media, most recently as a recruitment consultant for Brisbane in 2018.
The current Giants board lacked much football experience but Bartel should be able to make a significant contribution on that front.

One of Geelong's favourite son played in the club's 2007, 2009 and 2011 premierships.
He also won the Brownlow Medal in '07 and the Norm Smith Medal in '11.
GWS chairman Tony Shepherd said it was an exciting addition to the club.
"Jimmy is regarded as one of the most well-rounded people in the football community and we’re delighted to have him join our Board," said Mr Shepherd.
"His knowledge of the AFL industry is second to none and his work in the community and in business sees him well positioned to contribute to the club in a range of ways.
"Jimmy understands that we’re a young club with enormous opportunity in front of us, something he is excited to be a part of."
Entering the competition in 2012, GWS have made the finals for the past three seasons, losing two prelims before going out in the second week in 2018.
