Carlton's Jed Lamb has been offered a one-match ban for making unnecessary or unreasonable contact to the eye region on St Kilda's Jade Gresham.

The pair clashed in the second quarter of the Saints' big win over the Blues on Friday night, with Lamb appearing to rub his hand in the face of Gresham.

Match review officer Michael Christian announced the penalty on Saturday afternoon, with the Blues yet to confirm whether they will appeal the sanction.

The incident caps off a horror Friday the 13th game for the Blues, who now look a very long shot to avoid the wooden spoon.

Carlton have now lost by 65 and 64 points in consecutive weeks, both to sides sitting in the bottom four.

The night started off poorly for the Blues, with ruckman Matthew Kreuzer coming off and taking no further part in the match early in the first quarter.

Kreuzer was reporting shortness of breath and an irregular heartbeat, though he wasn't sent to hospital.

It didn't get much better from there.

Patrick Cripps played almost a lone hand, picking up 35 disposals, 23 of them contested.

For St Kilda, Jack Steven had a field day with 33 and two goals in the midfield, while Tim Membrey and Jack Newnes helped themselves to three goals each.

If last week's loss to Brisbane wasn't enough to resign Carlton fans to the wooden spoon, Friday night's result leaves little room for optimism.

While St Kilda have now won three of their last four as they look to finish the season on a roll.
