Luckless Magpies forward Jamie Elliott has suffered another setback in his bid to play AFL in 2018, injuring his hamstring in the VFL on Sunday.

Elliott made his way off the field late in the game after making a tackle during his side's win over North Melbourne.

The Pies are already dealing with a host of injuries and yesterday lost defender Matt Scharenberg to a suspected ACL.

Elliott is yet to play a game this season after dealing with hamstring and ankle problems and Collingwood would dearly love to have the livewire back for the finals.

It's not yet known how serious this latest injury is or whether fans can expect to see Elliott at all in 2018.

The 25-year-old has only played 17 games since the end of the 2015 season as he battles injury after injury.

Hamstrings have been the cause of most of the grief at the club this season, with Adam Treloar, Darcy Moore, Travis Varcoe and Josh Smith all succumbing to the injury.

Add to that season-ending injuries to Lynden Dunn and Daniel Wells, the fact Collingwood find themselves in the top four is all the more impressive.

In some good news for the club, key defender Tyson Goldsack is on track for an early return from his ACL injury and should feature during the home-and-away season.

Collingwood take on Sydney at the SCG next Saturday night.
