James Hird's car stolen during home invasion image

Former Essendon coach James Hird had his car stolen during an aggravated burglary in his Toorak home on Friday morning.

Hird and his family were asleep while two unknown offenders invaded the home between 12am and 1.30am.

They were unaware it took place until waking up in the morning.

It is also believed electronic goods were stolen along with his Audi station wagon.

In a statement delivered to SEN, Victoria Police confirmed the robbery.

"A silver Audi Q7 station wagon, registration XCA-676, was stolen from the address.

"It is understood electronics were also stolen from the home.

"The occupants, who were home at the time, were not disturbed during the incident."
