An arrest warrant issued for former Melbourne and Port Adelaide player Jack Watts has been withdrawn after confusion following the footballer's failure to appear in court.

Watts was due to appear at Adelaide Magistrates Court after he was charged with with failing to stop at a crash scene, failing to give particulars about the crash to a police officer and driving without due care.

However, after it emerged that Watts had a warrant out for his arrest on Monday afternoon, it was withdrawn shortly after when it was revealed the former no.1 draft pick was still waiting for his summons from Henley Beach police station.

It's alleged Watts failed to stop after crashing into a parked car in the Adelaide suburb of Fulham on September 20 last year.

Watts, the 2008 number one draft pick, announced his retirement from football in September after 174 AFL games.

It's understood he now lives in Melbourne, with the court reportedly unable to contact Watts and serve him with a summons for several months.
