He's been one of the form players in the competition in recent weeks and he was having another strong night in the first half against GWS on Saturday, but Jack Riewoldt wasn't pleased with something teammate Josh Caddy had done.

The pair appeared to exchange some heated words late in the second quarter as the Tigers held a slim lead over the Giants.

It wasn't quite clear what the issue was, but Riewoldt approached Caddy who wasn't all that receptive of the advice, pushing away the key forward several times.

A few moments later Riewoldt appeared to hurt his leg and struggled on briefly before coming to the bench.

The star key forward was then handed the phone to the coaches box for a chat with Damien Hardwick.

Looking for their first interstate win of the season, the Tigers went into half-time down by two points.

The home side then booted the only three goals of the third term to take a 19-point lead into the final break, setting them up for a potential upset and an avenue back into the top eight after Hawthorn's loss to Brisbane earlier in the day.

As it turned out, GWS were able to take the four premiership points, but not before a very nervous finish.

It was Riewoldt who snapped a late goal to bring the Tigers within one point as they chipped away at the Giants' lead in the final term.

GWS were able to win the final clearance and kick a behind to seal a classic two-point victory.

The Tigers are likely to maintain their position on top of the ladder, but it will only be on percentage with Collingwood, West Coast and Port Adelaide all lurking just one win off the pace with a game in hand.

GWS are now in seventh place and can drop no lower than eighth before the round is out.
