Richmond star Jack Riewoldt has been unsuccessful in his attempt to overturn his misconduct charge at the AFL Tribunal.

The Tigers forward appeared to attempt a 'chicken wing' tackle on Dees youngster Bayley Fritsch in the third term at the MCG last Wednesday.

While Richmond escaped with a big win, Riewoldt didn't just cop the wrath of the MRO.

The 252-gamer also suffered a knee injury that will sideline him for up to eight weeks.

THE INCIDENT: Jack Riewoldt's 'chicken wing' tackle on Bayley Fritsch

Riewoldt attended the Tribunal on Tuesday night to challenge his misconduct fine.

However, the charge was upheld, and the $1000 sanction was increased to $1500.

Talking to media afterwards, a frustrated Riewoldt was blunt in his review of the hearing.

"The fine is still a substantial amount, but I feel like I'm definitely a really fair player," Riewoldt said.

"I've sat on the Laws of the Game Committee for two years and I feel like I play the game in the right ethos.

"Understandably, I'm really disappointed with how it has gone."

The jury needed just 14 minutes of deliberation to find Riewoldt guilty, with AFL legal counsel Jeff Gleeson QC saying Riewoldt's action on Fritsch should be deemed as "unsportsmanlike" conduct.

Riewoldt had denied his actions were "unacceptable" and that he was attempting to keep Fritsch from getting the ball away.

While Riewoldt's fine was increased, Richmond won't be docked a further $10,000 from the league for an unsuccessful challenge of a financial penalty.
