Jack Lukosius contract extension: Gold Coast Suns forward re-signs with club image

Has the tide finally turned on the Gold Coast?

Last year the Suns looked to have halted the trend of players leaving the club and while Jack Martin is likely to be an exception, the news young tall Jack Lukosius has re-signed is more evidence of a change in the wind at the embattled club.

The 2018 number two draft pick impressed at both ends of the ground in his debut season and has now put pen to paper on a two-year contract extension.

Lukosius, 19, will be tied to the Suns until at least the end of 2022.

His signature follows a host of his teammates agreeing extensions in the last 12 months - co-captains Jarrod Witts and David Swallow, as well as Ben King, Alex Sexton, Touk Miller, Ben Ainsworth, Jack Bowes and Peter Wright have all signed new deals.

As has Lukosius' fellow South Australian and number three pick from the same draft Izak Rankine.

The exciting forward struggled with injury last year but is expected to feature heavily in what coach Stuart Dew will be hoping is a rise up the ladder.

Lukosius, who played 21 games in his debut season, said it was a simple decision to re-sign.

"Over the off-season I took the opportunity to reflect on my first year at AFL level and that made making the decision an easy one, I’ve loved my time at the club so far," Lukosius said.

"We’ve got a great group of players, who are all committing to the future of this football club and I can’t wait to be a part of it.

"The challenge now is to put my head down, continue to work hard on developing my game and ensure I’m ready to play my role for the team on field in 2020."
