Hawthorn swingman Tim O’Brien has signed a contract extension that will see him remain at the club until 2021.

O’Brien was due to come out of contract at the end of this season, but this new contract locks the 25-year-old into the brown and gold for a further two years.

Hawks football GM Graham Wright said the signing was reward for effort after 60 AFL games for O’Brien.

“We’re excited that Tim has committed to the club for a further two years,” Wright told the club website.

“We think he has started to look more and more comfortable at senior level this season and we’ve been impressed by his ability to play as both a key defender and a key forward throughout the year.

“He is a popular man around the club with a strong work ethic and desire to continually learn so we’re looking forward to seeing how he develops beyond this year.”

O’Brien has had his best season to date this year, averaging 13 disposals and over four marks across his 14 appearances at AFL level in 2019.
