A week after the game was stolen from their hands, the AFL gods rescued the Western Bulldogs from a heart in the mouth moment as Geelong forward Harry Taylor sprayed a game-deciding shot after the siren.

In a surprisingly tightly-fought contest, both sides went goal-for-goal as their biggest margin at any break was two points at the three-quarter hooter.

The Dogs looks to have buried the game with consecutive goals from Ed Richards and Billy Gowers to give them an eight-point lead but one final goal from Gary Ablett breathed life into the Cats.

And when Taylor plucked a mark from the air, you could feel Dogs fans reliving last week's devastating lost to North Melbourne.

With every man behind the ball, the Dogs did their best to guidee Taylor's kick over for a behind and their pressure paid off, securing a 103-101 upset victory to mark their first win since round eight.

The powerhouse midfield of Joel Selwood, Gary Ablett and Patrick Dangerfield dominated for Geelong, but youngsters Ed Richards, Patrick Lipinski and first-gamer Brad Lynch all stepped up for the underdogs.

A win would have secured a top four spot with the rest of the round to play out, however the loss could mean Geelong now slip out of the eight.
