Greater Western Sydney have locked away star midfielder Tim Taranto for a further two years, extending his contract until the end of 2022.

The Giants young gun was due to come out of contract at the end of 2020, but GWS acted early in securing the signature of Taranto.

The 21-year-old is in the third season of his career, and has had a stellar year, averaging over 28 disposals and 6.7 tackles per game.

Taranto told the club website he was loving his time at the Giants.

“I love this football club, I love the people in this football club, I love Sydney,” he said.

“I’m just loving life at the moment and didn’t want that to change so I thought I may as well re-sign.

“I want to repay the club as well, they’ve shown a lot of faith in me. I’m looking forward to finishing the season off strongly."

GWS list manager Jason McCartney lauded Taranto, saying the extension signalled exciting times for the club.

“Tim is fast becoming an elite midfielder in the competition and we’re thrilled to add another two years to his contract,” McCartney said.

“What he’s achieved in his first three years in the competition is simply outstanding and he puts in a lot of hard work on and off the field.

“A fantastic person, Tim is an emerging young leader of our club and we’re excited about what the future holds for him.”

Taranto's extension comes after the Giants re-signed Sam Reid, Sam Taylor and Connor Idun, as well as Josh Kelly, Jacob Hopper, Nick Haynes, Adam Kennedy, Harry Himmelberg, Brent Daniels and Matt de Boer earlier in the year.
