Gold Coast Suns v Carlton Blues: David Swallow removed by doctors following Patrick Cripps tackle image

Patrick Cripps may have a nervous wait ahead of him after an incident left David Swallow looking uncomfortably unstable on his own two feet.

With Carlton travelling to the Glitter Strip to take on the Suns at Metricon Stadium on Saturday night, tens of fans turned up to watch last and second-last go head-to-head.

One of the few drawcards to the game was Blues midfielder Patrick Cripps, and it didn't take long for the 23-year-old to hit the spotlight.

With Cripps marking up with David Swallow in a contest close to the touchline, both players went head over the footy in a race to the ball that left the duo on the ground.

When Swallow hit the turf, it looked as if Cripps' momentum buried his head into the Metricon surface.

Watch the incident in the video player below.

He attempted to get up but needed the help from the medical staff.

While Swallow attempted to push both the doctor and physio away, the umpires stopped play and assured him that he required assistance.

Even when he was off the field Swallow tried to get back on the ground.

While Cripps isn't likely to receive punishment from the Match Review Officer Michael Christian, stranger things have happened and he has a lot on the line.

Despite Carlton's season from hell, Cripps has been their best on field in almost every single match.

In The AFL Rover's Brownlow leaderboard, Cripps sits 10th with 15 votes, just seven behind leaders Stephen Coniglio and Tom Mitchell.

On Sportsbet, Cripps is paying $9 to take out Charlie, with the third shortest-odds behind Mitchell and Andrew Gaff.

Despite Cripps' involvement in the tackle, no one blamed the superstar who recently signed a new contract with the club he loves.

Instead, Twitter was simply worried about Swallow's condition.

It was then confirmed that Swallow was ruled out for the remainder of the match.
