Fremantle has confirmed that midfielder Connor Blakely has sustained a hamstring tendon injury that will see the Docker sidelined between 12-14 weeks.

The 22-year-old suffered the injury setback during training on Friday, when he was awkwardly hit during a contest.

Scans on Saturday confirmed that the midfielder sustained a high-grade tear and damage to an internal tendon in the muscle. Blakely will consult a surgeon this week to confirm if an operation is required.

“Connor will see a surgeon this week to confirm if surgery is required,” General manager of football Peter Bell said in a club statement.

“At this stage, the medical advice is that Connor will require 12 to 14 weeks to fully recover.

“It’s obviously disappointing for both Connor and the football club, but we are confident he will be able to return in the first half of the season and have an impact.”

Before the injury setback, Blakely was expected to replace departing Lachie Neale in the midfield for the upcoming season.

The Western Australian played the first 13 matches of 2018 predominately as a backman, before a knee injury ruled him out for the remainder of the season.

Fremantle will take on North Melbourne on Sunday, March 24 at Optus Stadium.
