Essendon forward Joe Daniher and Sydney CEO Tom Harley have said their meeting earlier this week was just a catch up between friends, however, there are rumours that this wasn't the case.

The two were seen catching up in Sydney on Monday, with Daniher in New South Wales to see a surgeon as a follow up to his groin surgery.

Both Essendon and Harley were adamant that the meeting was simply just two friends catching up, but journalist Sam McClure said that not was all as it seems.

“Tom Harley and Joe Daniher catching up just as friends is not what happened,” McClure told SEN Tuesday night.

“I am telling you right now, that Tom Harley and Joe Daniher catching up just as friends is not what happened.

“There is something in this.”

Daniher has family ties to the Swans, with his father playing 115 games for the club.

Daniher was eligible for father-son selection with both clubs, but ultimately chose the red and the black.

“And there is at least some interest from Joe Daniher about talking about the prospect about what his career would look like outside of Essendon,” said McClure.

McClure compared the meeting to other trade rumours in recent years.

“I am saying to you in the same way that the Brisbane Lions were interested in Lachie Neale, in the same way that Mitch McGovern was always leaving Adelaide,” said McClure.

“You don’t have to believe everything you hear from footy clubs.”
