Collingwood star Dayne Beams is the latest player to come out and expose online abuse, describing it as "disgusting."

Beams posted a screenshot of a conversation to his Instagram story, with one of the messages reading "at least my dads (sic) still alive."

“Why should players just have to put up with this sh**,” Beams wrote.

“It’s disgusting some of the abuse players cop.”

Beams' father, Phillip, died in March of 2018 following a battle with bowel cancer.

Beams' redacted his responses to the user, so it is unclear what he said in return.

Following his father's death, Beams said his life "spiralled out of control."

He made the move from Brisbane back to Collingwood at the end of last season.

Former Gold Coast and Carlton ruckman Daniel Gorringe backed Beams on Twitter.

Beams is the latest player to reveal the extent of online abuse that AFL players cop.

Indigneous stars Eddie Betts, Liam Ryan, Nic Naitanui and Shaun Burgoyne have all outed online hate in the past year.

Clubs have also taken action against abuse, with Richmond banning one of its members for for two years after he posted a racist taunt.

Melbourne launched a campaign earlier this season, where players were shown ripping up hate-filled tweets.

Dees defender Neville Jetta told Fox Footy's AFL360 that he hoped the anti-bullying campaign would get people to realise their words have consequences.

“It’s not just racism, it’s actually bullying, bullying people, and AFL players have that stance where we’re able to speak out to the community and people actually listen to us,” Jetta said.
