David Teague set to be appointed Carlton coach on Thursday, report image

Carlton will reportedly appoint David Teague to the full-time coaching position on Thursday.

According to a report in The Age, the Blues will officially confirm that the caretaker coach has been given the permanent gig.

Carlton have won five of nine games since Teague took over following Brendon Bolton's sacking.

The Age's report claims that Port Adelaide assistant and three-time Brisbane premiership captain Michael Voss was the only other man interviewed for the job.

Teague has impressed since taking over as caretaker, with the decision to appoint him as full-time coach now the safe one for the board amid plenty of pressure to back the 38-year-old.

Countless pundits, fans, ex-players and even current captain Patrick Cripps threw their support behind Teague to get his first senior role at AFL level and it appears to have been telling.

Having won just one of their first 11 games for the year, Carlton's turnaround under Teague has been stark, with a renewed freedom evident in the performance of the team.

Teague's success in the role, while still early days, will come as no surprise to many given his long apprenticeship.

Following an 83-game playing career at North Melbourne and the Blues, Teague took charge of Carlton's VFL affiliate before working as an assistant at West Coast, St Kilda and Adelaide.

The Victorian then returned to Carlton as a member of Bolton's backroom staff before taking over following his departure in early June.

Following Rhyce Shaw's appointment at North Melbourne late last month, Teague becomes the the second caretaker coach to be given the permanent job.

That number could still rise if Brett Ratten gets the gig at the Saints following a promising start.
