Dane Swan has allegedly been caught and charged by police for drink driving.

A police spokeswoman said officers intercepted a car at a breath testing site on Williams Road in Malvern about 11.30am on Friday morning.

Swan was nabbed at the site, which was part of Operation Scoreboard - a road-safety initiative for the AFL grand final long weekend in Melbourne.

On Thursday, Prahran Highway Patrol detected 53 unregistered vehicles in Malvern as part of the operation.

Swan blew 0.054 at the site, and was taken into the local police station.

He was released shortly after.

The 2010 Brownlow medallist, Swan had his licence immediately suspended for three months, and will be required to fit an alcohol interlock device to his car.

Police said the Collingwood legend also received a $484 fine.

He had featured on The Footy Show's grand final program on Thursday night.

It's not Swan's first run-in this year.

Back in May, police were called after a lewd video of Swan was allegedly distributed online without his consent.

He subsequently labelled the video's distribution a "gross breach of my privacy".
