Cornes: Scott Camporeale is the perfect choice to be new Carlton coach image

Former Port Adelaide star Kane Cornes believes there's a perfect replacement for sacked Carlton coach Brendon Bolton.

Interim coach David Teague is already impressing, but Carlton is still on the lookout for their next permanent coach.

And Cornes believes one of Carlton's favourite sons could be the answer to their problem.

Speaking on SEN, Cornes said Adelaide assistant coach Scott Camporeale would be the perfect choice for the next coach of the Blues.

“I just love the idea of getting favourite sons back in to coach a footy club,” Cornes said.

“After being a reluctant applicant to past vacant coaching jobs due to business and family reasons, Carlton legend Scott Camporeale will put his hand up to replace sacked coach Brendon Bolton.

“Now that he’s signalled his intentions, Camporeale to me appears to be the best credentialled out of all the untested coaches currently putting their hand up for the top job.

“His competitiveness and desire to never be beaten were fundamental pillars of his successful playing career.”

Camporeale has been in the coaching ranks since 2007, serving in assistant roles at Essendon and Adelaide, as well as becoming the Crows interim coach in 2015 following the tragic death of Phil Walsh.

Cornes also said that as Carlton coach, Camporeale could bring a hardened edge to the Blues and help their young midfield.

“As the Crows midfield coach, they were always dominant in contested football, scoring from stoppage and putting pressure on the opposition.

“He coached the last 11 games of 2015 including two finals and a win over the Western Bulldogs at the MCG and his final win-loss count recorded seven wins and four losses.

“He was able to galvanise a devastated football club and a vulnerable playing group who at times were questioning their motivation to play the game.”

The comments come after Adelaide senior coach Don Pyke gave Camporeale his blessing to go for the senior role at Carlton, if he so wished.

"If that's something Scott wants to pursue, then we'll have conversations about what that looks like," Pyke said to reporters on Tuesday.

The Crows take on GWS on Saturday night.
