Collingwood v Fremantle: Michael Walters given goal despite Chris Mayne touch image

Michael Walters and Fremantle were the beneficiaries of an officiating error when the star was awarded a third-quarter goal.

Replays showed Collingwood wingman, and former Docker, Chris Mayne getting a finger on Walters' snap.

On the broadcast, it appeared that the decision was reviewed, but only on the goal line and not for a touch off the boot.

That goal, the third of a run of five in a row from the visitors, drew the visitors level in a tight contest at the MCG on Saturday afternoon.

As it turned out, that major proved decisive, with the Dockers running out four-point winners courtesy of another late goal from Walters.

The gravity of the missed call wasn't lost on the Fox Footy team post-match.

"That's clearly touched," David King said.

"It was sent upstairs to be reviewed, the Collingwood players put themselves into a zone, they were adamant that it was touched.

"At that stage it was a six-point margin, that brought that scores back to square and it kept Fremantle's momentum going.

"This is critical, in a four-point result, we're talking about a high-stakes industry right now, to not review that area of the kick... there's only two points to check isn't there?

"If it takes an extra three seconds to get the decision right, that is the whole reason why we have the score review in place.

"We're using common sense apparently with umpiring across the code, so why wouldn't we use it, or apply it, in this score review sense?"

The high-flying Pies were looking to make it eight straight wins, but fell four points short as the Dockers stole a well-deserved win to move into sixth on the ladder.
