Former Sydney premiership player Luke Ablett says bullying within the AFL is rife, in the wake of allegations levelled at Melbourne's premiership coach Simon Goodwin.

Herald Sun report alleged there was bullying within the Demons by Goodwin and that there was also concerns around his lifestyle.

However, Melbourne president Kate Roffey said the bullying claims within the Demons had been investigated with none of the accusations against Goodwin being proved.

Commenting on the Goodwin story, Ablett believes many interactions within a football club could be deemed bullying within standard society.

"I regret to inform you that a lot of what happens inside football clubs between players and coaches would be considered bullying in any other context," Ablett tweeted.

"It’s why it’s always astounded me that businesses look to coaches about how to drive performance. 90 per cent of what happens in football clubs is not transferable in anyway to business.

"However, if the bullying allegations are against admin or performance staff, then that is completely unacceptable in every way."

Ablett won a premiership with the Swans in 2005, playing 133 games between 2002-09.
