Terry Wallace: Bryce Gibbs would 'fit beautifully' at Port Adelaide image

Adelaide midfielder Bryce Gibbs is out of favour, after being dropped for the third time this season.

That's despite having an improved performance in the Crows' win over Melbourne in Darwin.

Gibbs returned to South Australia in 2018, courtesy of a huge trade that saw two first-round draft picks given to former club Carlton.

Speaking on SEN, AFL Hall of Famer Terry Wallace says Gibbs would give Port Adelaide additional midfield depth and class.

Wallace said the move makes absolute sense.

“Why wouldn’t you look at something like that if it’s not going to cost you much? They’re almost saying: 'We’re throwing him out the door'" Wallace said.

"If you’re Port Adelaide, you’ve brought in some good young players over the last 12 months, if he’s not costing you anything, why wouldn’t you add him to your depth?

“When you think about Port Adelaide at the moment, they haven’t had Ollie Wines, they haven’t had (Brad) Ebert for portions, (Tom) Rockliff has been missing, he would fit in beautifully into that mix.

“Having gone back home, you probably don’t want to uproot and do that all again. I think he would fit perfectly."

Meanwhile, former Saints star Leigh Montagna believes the Crows got the Gibbs trade wrong.

Speaking on Fox Sports News' AFL Tonight Selection Night, Montagna said “Yeah no doubt they got that one wrong. You can say that in hindsight.

“Two first round picks for a player who’s not in their best 22. I’m sure in hindsight they’d prefer they didn’t give up so much to get him back to Adelaide.”

“They’ve got everyone else to pick from and I think it’s just a selection squeeze. And Bryce Gibbs is out of favour at the club.

“We know he’s come back into the side after not playing any SANFL footy, despite wanting to work on parts of his game. For me it’s pretty obvious that he’s not part of their plans this season.”

Gibbs has played 260 AFL games since his 2007 debut, and is contracted to Adelaide until the end of 2021.
