Leader Tim Kelly had a quiet day in the loss the Port Adelaide, while Carlton had the bye meaning second-placed Patrick Cripps couldn't close any ground at the top of the Sporting News' Brownlow leaderboard.
That left Collingwood ruckman Brodie Grundy to take advantage with a virtuoso performance in the win over the Bulldogs.
Grundy earned all three votes to take his total to 15 for the season, good enough for outright third on the leaderboard, two back from Kelly.

The Pies big man's dominance relegated Jack Macrae to two votes despite 42 disposals and 12 tackles.
Adam Treloar rounded out the votes from that match.
It was a round for the big men, with a total of three ruckmen polling maximum votes.
Max Gawn made the most of a tiring Sean Darcy in Melbourne's win over Freo, finishing with 46 hitouts and eight marks, while Tom McDonald polled his first votes of the season in the same match.
Power big man Scott Lycett took on the bulk of the ruck duties with Paddy Ryder dropped and he handled it with aplomb as Port got over the ladder-leading Cats.
Star veterans Robbie Gray and Travis Boak rounded out the votes in that game, with Kelly being limited to just 17 touches.
The other big beneficiaries in round 14 were Elliot Yeo (two votes versus Essendon) and Luke Parker (three votes versus Hawthorn) who took their totals to 13 and 12 respectively.
