Collingwood star Brodie Grundy has suffered a serious injury in Collingwood's win over Essendon in the Anzac Day game.

The ruckman could potentially miss up to 12 weeks, according to Herald Sun scribe Sam Edmund, after fears in the Magpies camp that he suffered PCL damage in a centre bounce ruck contest during the third quarter at the MCG.

Grundy underwent scans on Tuesday to assess the damage.

This PCL setback to Grundy comes off the back of another ruckman going down to a similar injury in just a matter of days.

Carlton ruckman Marc Pittonet was subbed out of the crucial game against Fremantle on Saturday night, after his knee clashed with Sean Darcy.

At this stage, Pittonet has fortunately escaped from any major damage to the ligament but is being monitored.

Ex-AFL player Corey McKernan expressed his frustrations about the rules surrounding centre bounces.

McKernan believes ruckmen should be penalised if they take their eyes off the ball as they go to contest in the air.

"Another ruckman goes down with a PCL... I've said it for years... Penalise ruckman who don't watch the ball... you dramatically increase the chances of a PCL," the former Roo tweeted.

Grundy's potential PCL injury came after a knee-on-knee clash with Sam Draper in the centre circle, of which was brought in to prevent ruckman coming in from all angles and at pace, in hope it would see less injuries.

In 2005, the AFL introduced a new and improved centre circle, which has a 10-metre diameter where ruckmen must be positioned at centre bounces.
