Ben Stratton's weekend continues to go from bad to worse.

First the Hawthorn captain saw his side go down to Essendon by 19 points, while, perhaps unbeknown to him, television cameras caught him continuously pinching Bombers livewire Orazio Fantasia.

He was then filmed giving the middle finger to a bunch of Essendon fans late in the match.

While it was no surprise to see those two matters highlighted in the AFL's match review report from the match, a third charge, stomping, also featured.

Stratton was sent straight to the tribunal for an alleged stomp on Essendon tall forward Shaun McKernan.

That was on top of being directly referred over the pinching and fined $1,000 for the obscene gesture.

It didn't take long for broadcasters to find vision of the stomp and it doesn't give the veteran defender much to work with when coming up with a defence.

With the potential to break one of the many fragile bones in the foot, it's an absolutely low act from someone who ought to know and act a lot better.

Stratton spoke to Channel Seven on Saturday and said as much himself.

"My actions last night probably weren't a great look for the game and it's not something I want to be known for," Stratton said.

"As captain I've got to be better at setting an example for not only the Hawthorn club but any kids out there."

The three-time premiership winner faces the tribunal on Monday evening and looks a certainty to miss his side's crucial trip to the SCG to face the Swans, plus a few more most likely.
