Hawthorn ruckman Ben McEvoy was taken to hospital with a suspected fractured cheekbone after a head clash in his side's win over Western Bulldogs.

McEvoy laid a heavy bump on Josh Dunkley in the last quarter at Etihad Stadium.

Both players went down in pain, with the left side of McEvoy's face looking worse for wear almost immediately.

The big man was taken from the ground and played no further part in the match before being carted off to hospital.

The knock to McEvoy was one of the few sore points in a big win for the Hawks, who move into the top eight, though GWS and North Melbourne could jump them on Sunday,

Alastair Clarkson's side won by more than ten goals despite going into halftime down by two points.

Luke Breust finished with six goals after booting four in the first term, while Jack Gunston and Jarryd Roughead pitched in with four each.

McEvoy had also been among the best prior to the head clash with Dunkley, while for the Dogs, Jason Johannisen was in everything in the first half before being held somewhat in the second.

Check out the highlights below.

Next Saturday, the Dogs take on a Melbourne side who will be buoyed after returning to the winners' circle following a victory over Fremantle in Darwin on Saturday night.

Hawthorn will host Brisbane who have won two on the trot for the first time this season after a 65-point dismantling of Carlton.
