Former AFL legend Barry Hall has been dumped by Triple M after making an inapporpriate comment on-air in relation to the impending birth of co-commentator Leigh Montagna’s child.

Various media outlets report Hall was immediately told to leave after a pre-match discussion in the build up to the Western Bulldogs thrilling encounter with Geelong Cats at the MCG.

In a statement provided to AFL.com.au, Triple M head of content Mike Fitzpatrick confirmed the news.

“Tonight on Triple M Football there were unacceptable and inappropriate comments made by a member of the commentary team,” Fritzpatrick said in a statement.

“The commentator was removed immediately from the broadcast and an apology was issued on air afterwards.''

Hall was filling in for former Brownlow Medallist Chris Judd and will take no further part in Triple M's media duties.

Listeners were disgusted by Hall's comments and while the full comment has not been revealed, some outraged supporters took to Twitter to shame Hall.

Hall retired in 2011 with 289 AFL appearances to his name that included one premiership with Sydney and four All Australian inductions.
