Luckless former Swans defender Alex Johnson has taken up a development role with the VFL's Northern Blues, with a view to eventually playing once he recovers from his latest ACL injury.
Johnson left Sydney at the end of the last season after eight years, 47 senior games, one premiership and six knee reconstructions.
He was offered an off-field role with Sydney but opted to continue his career in his native Victoria.
Johnson will take up the head of development role at the club while also continuing his rehabilitation from his latest knee reconstruction.

The 26-year-old suffered his latest ACL injury in August in just his second senior match after coming back from an almost six year injury absence.
Northern Blues GM Ben Brennan said the club were excited to have the 2012 premiership winner on board.
"We’re thrilled to welcome Alex to the fold. He’s one of the most committed people I’ve ever met," Brennan said.
"He’s definitely got a unique outlook on football and has a lot of experience in a number of areas.
"The way he has responded to setbacks has shown enormous character and he will be a tremendous addition to our group — he already has been.
"As a player, we know he’s been through a lot but we know what he’s capable of and both he and the club have full confidence he can get back to full fitness.
"'AJ' already had experience in the development space, which is pretty unique for someone his age. He’s already started working with Josh Fraser and he’ll be another valuable voice for our players."
