The AFLX is dead and buried, according to AFL great Tim Watson.

The brainchild of the AFL, AFLX is a preseason tournament that was designed to attract younger audiences and those outside the AFL circles into football.

It saw different teams, and certain rules were changed to keep the game flowing, as well as 20 minute games.

However, Watson, who was never a fan of the concept to begin with, has claimed that we have seen the last of AFLX.

“I’ve got an acronym for you. I’m hearing this, but you’ve got to put the pieces together: AFLX RIP,” Watson told SEN on Tuesday.

“What do you think that means?

“I’m hearing there was a lot of opposition to it from AFL clubs.

“There’ll be no more AFLX, that’s what I’m hearing.”

The reception to the competition has been mostly poor, with commentators slamming the concept as cheap and unappealing.
