AFL trade rumours: Fischer McAsey linked with a return to Victoria image

The season hasn't even begun, let alone the trade period, but the rumours have already started.

Reports on Tuesday are linking young Adelaide key defender Fischer McAsey with a return to Victoria.

McAsey was taken with pick six in the 2019 draft and played 10 senior games in his first year at the Crows.

Yet to sign a new deal beyond 2021, SEN's Sam Edmund reports clubs in his home state of Victoria have been informed of McAsey's preference to be traded.

"Victorian clubs have been alerted, tapped on the shoulder, worded up to the go-home desire of top draft pick Fischer McAsey exists," Edmund said.

"McAsey is considered almost certain to request a trade back to his home state at season's end unless there is a dramatic reversal of fortunes there.

"He just hasn't settled in South Australia, he also has some personal family reasons and motivations for exploring a move to a Melbourne-based club."

McAsey was a highly rated prospect coming out of the Sandringham Dragons and Caulfied Grammar systems.

He was named All Australian in the 2019 U18 National Championships but, as with many key position players, is yet to make his mark at senior level.

The 20-year-old was also tried forward on several occasions in 2020 and could end up at that end of the ground long term.
