Jye Caldwell to Essendon

It took until the final moments, but young midfielder Jye Caldwell eventually got his move to the Bombers.

The Giants gave up the 20-year-old and picks 44 and 74 in exchange for pick 29 and future second-round selection.

"He’s a contested-ball winner who oozes composure and sure ball-handling whenever he’s in possession," Bombers list manager Adrian Dodora said of the former first-round pick.

"Additionally, we know Jye has a lot of development ahead and is only going to get better with more exposure to senior football."

Tom Phillips to Hawthorn

Another outgoing Pie as a result of the salary cap squeeze, wingman Tom Phillips finds himself headed to Hawthorn for pick 65.

Now that might sound like a bargain, but the Hawks are reportedly paying the full whack of Phillips' salary, understood to be in the vicinity of $500,000 a year, meaning Collingwood were happy to part with Phillips for little in return.

“He is a talented young player who can bolster our outside mid stocks, and at 24 years of age, he has plenty of quality football left ahead of him," Hawks footy manager Graham Wright said.

Orazio Fantasia to Port Adelaide

Small forward Orazio Fantasia and pick 73 get to Port Adelaide in exchange for pick 29 and a future third-round pick.

Originally from South Australia, Fantasia made his wish to return home clear and Port Adelaide eventually came to an agreement with the Bombers.

The 25-year-old heads to Alberton on a three-year deal.

Jaidyn Stephenson and Atu Bosenavulagi to North Melbourne

The Kangaroos have provided some much-needed salary cap relief to Collingwood, signing livewire forward Jaidyn Stephenson.

As part of the deal, Atu Bosenavulagi and pick 39 also head to Arden St, with picks 26, 33 and 70 going the other way.

Collingwood had made it clear to Stephenson that he was no longer wanted at the club, their brimming wage bill proving a major issue this trade period.

He joins North Melbourne on what is understood to be a five-year deal.

Stephenson, 21, played 54 games for the Magpies, claiming the 2018 Rising Star award, while hard-at-it forward Bosenavulagi, 20, has played three AFL games.

Alex Witherden to West Coast

Half-back flanker Alex Witherden has joined West Coast on a two-year deal after the club agreed a trade with Brisbane.

Witherden and pick 86 head to the Eagles, with pick 59 and a future third-round pick coming back the other way.

West Coast will be hoping to get the best out of the 22-year-old who found himself pushed out of the Lions’ best 22.

Jack Higgins to St Kilda

St Kilda has enhanced its reputation as a destination club for blokes named Jack.

Livewire forward-mid Jack Higgins gets to Moorabbin along with pick 21 and a future fourth-round pick, while St Kilda sends pick 17 and a future second-rounder to Richmond.

The 21-year-old has played 43 games for the Tigers, though he has missed selection in the club's premierships over the last two seasons.

Higgins played 10 games in 2020, the last of which came in round 15.

He becomes the eighth Jack at the club.

Ben Brown to Melbourne

Key forward Ben Brown got his move to Melbourne shortly after the trade window reopened at 3pm.

North Melbourne receives picks 26 and 33 and a future fourth-round pick off the Dees for Brown, with pick 28 and a future fourth-round going back the other way.

Brown, who turns 28 later this month, played 130 games for the Roos, booting 287 goals.

Injury and personal issues saw him struggle in 2020, kicking just eight goals in nine games, but he'd passed the 60-goal mark in each of his previous three seasons.

Melbourne will be hoping Brown can provide the forward target they've dearly missed over the past two seasons.

Wednesday, November 11

Tom Hickey to Sydney

The Swans have added some much-needed depth to their ruck stocks, recruiting veteran big man Tom Hickey from West Coast.

Hickey, 29, joins his fourth club, having previously played for Gold Coast (12 games) and St Kilda (67) prior to the Eagles (23).

The deal got completed through a fairly elaborate pick swap, with West Coast sending picks 34 and 60 to the Swans along with Hickey.

In return, the Eagles get picks 58 and 60, as well as a future second-round pick (Port Adelaide's via the Aliir Aliir trade) and a future third-round pick.

Shaun Higgins to Geelong

After trading away Nakia Cockatoo and Lachie Fogarty, Geelong have secured Kangaroos veteran Shaun Higgins.

The deal will see North Melbourne receive pick 30, given to the Cats in the Lachie Fogarty deal, as the Cats look to add the final pieces to a premiership puzzle.

Higgins signed with North in 2014 as a restricted free agent and played 108 games for club, winning two best and fairest awards and being named in the All-Australian team in 2018.

The 32-year-old will add some polish to the Cats' midfield and front half following the retirement of Gary Ablett.

Lachie Fogarty to Carlton

Small forward Lachie Fogarty has joined Carlton along with pick 38, in exchange for picks 30 and 51.

Fogarty, 21, has played 23 AFL games and will be hoping for more opportunity at his second club.

“Lachie is extremely talented with all the attributes required to succeed at the elite level,” Blues list manager Nick Austin said.

“He will have every opportunity to make the most of that talent at our football club and he is really excited to begin the hard work and push for his place in our best 22."

Aliir Aliir to Port Adelaide

Port Adelaide have secured defender Aliir Aliir in a trade with Sydney, a future second-round pick heading to the Swans as part of the deal.

The 26-year-old heads to Alberton on a four-year deal and should add another dimension to their backline.

Aliir was understood to be frustrated at being played out of position at the Swans, with the club juggling a lack of ruck options.

He played 64 games for the Swans, debuting in 2016.

Nakia Cockatoo to Brisbane

Geelong midfielder Nakia Cockatoo has been traded to Brisbane for a future 3rd round pick.

They accepted the deal on Wednesday which will see the Lions trade back the pick that they received from the Cats earlier in the trade period.

It is expected that Cockatoo will sign a two-year deal with the club.

The 24-year-old has played 35 games for Geelong, kicking 24 goals, but soft tissue injuries have cruelled the former first-round draft pick's development.

Adam Saad to Carlton

Carlton has finally agreed to a deal for Essendon defender Adam Saad.

Essendon list boss Adrian Dodoro was prepared to give Carlton Saad and a third-round pick in return for pick number eight and a future fourth-round choice from Carlton.

However, after a marathon negotiation period, the Blues backed out at the last minute.

This was resolved on Wednesday morning, with Saad and picks 48 and 78 heading to the Blues in exchange for pick 8 and 87.

Tuesday, November 10

Stefan Martin to Western Bulldogs, Lachie Young to North Melbourne

The first three-way trade of 2020 sees veteran big man Stefan Martin head to the Bulldogs, young defender Lachie Young go from the Dogs to North and Brisbane and the Roos swap picks.

Brisbane give up pick 70 and get North Melbourne's pick 63 in return.

Martin, who turns 34 next week, joins the Bulldogs on a one-year deal and will provide much-needed support to developing tall Tim English.

Mid-sized defender Young, 21, has played eight AFL games, two in 2020 after falling down the pecking order slightly.

Brayden Preuss to GWS

The Giants have replaced the retired Sam Jacobs with Melbourne ruckman Brayden Preuss on a three-year deal, with pick 31 heading the other way.

Preuss played 10 games in two years for the Demons, struggling to get a game around star big man Max Gawn.

The 25-year-old Queenslander had previously spent three seasons at North Melbourne, again finding himself behind an established ruckman in Todd Goldstein.

Preuss and the Giants will be hoping he can flourish in a larger role in Western Sydney.

Mitch Hannan to Western Bulldogs

Having started his career with Footscray in the VFL, small forward Mitch Hannan returns to the Kennel after four years as a Demon.

The 26-year-old joins the Bulldogs on a two-year deal in exchange for a 2021 third-round pick.

“Primarily, we see him being able to add to our forward mix with his speed, tackle pressure and ability to impact the scoreboard,” Dogs list manager Sam Power said

Hannan kicked 55 goals in 50 games for Melbourne.

Peter Wright to Essendon

The Bombers appear to have picked up a bargain in the trade period with key forward Peter Wright joining the club.

'Two-metre Peter' was contracted for the next two years at the Suns on good money, but the 24-year-old failed to play a senior game in 2020, falling out of favour with coach Stuart Dew.

He heads to the Bombers on a three-year deal for a future fourth-round pick, with the Suns reportedly paying some of his salary.

Wright booted 86 goals in 66 games for the Gold Coast and Essendon will be hoping he can fill the gaps left by Joe Daniher and Shaun McKernan.

Friday, November 6

Shaun McKernan to St Kilda

The Saints have recruited some support for Max King in the form of veteran tall Shaun McKernan.

Joining St Kilda as a delisted free agent, the 30-year old will add some depth to the key forward stocks at Moorabbin.

Saints list manager James Gallagher spoke about the new recruit

“We’re really pleased to have signed Shaun for next season,” Gallagher said.

“Our structure in the ruck and key forward roles, having Paddy (Ryder), Max (King) and Rowan (Marshall) all available, was a real cornerstone of our game plan this year."

McKernan played 34 games for the Crows and 53 for Essendon.

Thursday, November 5

Kyle Hartigan to Hawthorn

Veteran key defender Kyle Hartigan heads to Hawthorn from the Crows, plugging the hole left by the retired James Frawley.

Hartigan was out of contract and could have moved as an unrestricted free agent, though the teams agreed a trade, with the Hawks sending their 2021 fourth round pick to Adelaide.

“Kyle is the consummate team man, respected and liked by everyone at the football club and will always be a part of the Crows family,” Crows list manager Justin Reid said.

Hartigan played 113 games from Adelaide.

Wedneday, November 4

Brad Crouch to St Kilda

Midfielder Brad Crouch joins the Saints as a restricted free agent after Adelaide opted not to match St Kilda's contract offer.

They receive a second-round compensation pick, currently 23, significantly worse than the pick two they were hoping for.

The 26-year-old joins the Saints on a five-year deal worth around $600,000 per season.

Jesse Hogan to GWS

GWS have replaced the outgoing Jeremy Cameron with Jesse Hogan, sending pick 54 to Fremantle.

Hogan was contracted to Freo for 2021 but reports have suggested he and coach Justin Longmuir are at odds regarding his future at the club.

The 25-year-old was at the Dockers for two seasons, playing 19 games and kicking 18 goals as he struggled with injury and off-field issues.

Oleg Markov to Gold Coast

The Gold Coast Suns have secured Oleg Markov in a trade with Richmond, with the club set to receive a future third-round pick.

Markov, who signed a two-year deal, has struggled to secure a regular spot in their senior team, restricted to just 23 games in five years.

“I’m excited to be joining the Suns and to start the next phase of my football career on the Gold Coast,” Markov said in a statement.

“I’ve watched the Suns from afar this year and have been really impressed with the direction of the club and the improvement of the playing group."

Zac Langdon to West Coast

The first trade of 2020 has officially been struck, with Giants forward Zac Langdon crossing over to the Eagles in exchange for pick 54.

Langdon expressed a desire to move back to Western Australia, having been drafted by the club as a mature-age prospect in 2017.

“Following a couple of interrupted seasons, Zac expressed a desire to return home to Western Australia to be closer to family,” GWS footy boss Jason McCartney said.

Friday, October 30

Aidan Corr to North Melbourne

GWS waved good bye to two players on the first day of the free agency window, with defender Aidan Corr becoming a Roo.

Corr heads to Arden Street on a five-year deal after the Giants chose not to match North Melbourne's contract offer to the unrestricted free agent.

The 26-year-old, who has played 98 games for the Giants, nets his former club a second-round pick as compensation.

Zac Williams to Carlton

Dashing Giant Zac Williams has completed his move to the Blues after GWS opted not to match the contract offer to the 26-year-old.

Carlton's offer to Williams - six years at around $800,000 a season - was always going to be tough for the Giants to match.

Fortunately for GWS, it was also sufficient to earn them a first-round compensation pick.

Joe Daniher to Brisbane

Essendon star Joe Daniher has officially joined Brisbane as a restricted free agent.

The Bombers received a first-round pick as compensation for the 26-year-old, which currently sits at No.7 overall.

Daniher will take up a three-year deal, which will see him remain in Brisbane until at least the end of the 2023 AFL season.

Essendon opted not to match Brisbane's offer.

Isaac Smith to Geelong

While it's yet to be officially signed off by the AFL, Hawthorn have already confirmed veteran wingman Isaac Smith with be joining the Cats.

The 31-year-old heads to Geelong on a two-year deal after a big push from coach Chris Scott, knocking back offers from the Hawks and Melbourne.

"As an unrestricted free agent, Issie exercised his right to explore the market, that’s the nature of the mechanism of free agency," Hawthorn footy manager Graham Wright said.

The AFL has confirmed the Hawks will receive a third-round compensation pick for Smith.

Rory Atkins to Gold Coast

The Adelaide wingman completes the first move of 2020, heading to Gold Coast as a free agent.

Atkins joins on a four-year deal worth around $400,000 a year,  a deal the Crows weren't given the chance to match as he in an unrestricted free agent.

The AFL confirmed Adelaide would receive an end-of-second-round pick as compensation.

He played 101 games for Adelaide, but added just four in 2020 after falling out of favour.
