AFL 2019: Nick Riewoldt tips Richmond Tigers for the premiership image

Nick Riewoldt has backed Richmond for the 2019 premiership, saying the Tigers have all it takes to claim their second flag in three years.

Speaking on AFL360 on Wednesday, the St Kilda champ said Richmond were peaking at the right time.

"I think Richmond are going to win it," Riewoldt said.

"With where they are, they've got a great system, the way they play is a system that stands up, they're big in the turnover game, they've got great players, they're fit and available... they just play with a great spirit every week.

"I think they're perfectly placed.

"I know we're a long way out but I think they'll win it."

Riewoldt pointed to the Tigers' injury list, which has been star-studded at various times this year, but said apart from fullback Alex Rance, they had a near full complement of players.

Though, speaking later in the show, former Carlton star Mark McClure said Rance's deputy in the back six in Dylan Grimes had stepped up in the five-time All Australian's absence and was key to their flag hopes.

"They can't do it (win the premiership) without a guy called Dylan Grimes. (He's) been spectacular," McClure said.

"Since Rance has gone down, he's taken over the heavy lifting, he doesn't get a lot of stats... but in the last nine games, he's conceded four goals only, playing against some really tough sides in that area.

"He's an All Australia absolute fix for the year, but they won't pick him because he's not sexy enough."

Richmond take on Collingwood in a Friday night blockbuster this week, with the Pies currently fourth in the line for the flag with the bookies.

Fortunes at the Collingwood however have taken a dip in recent times, dropping two of their last three, including a 47-point thumping to GWS.
