AFL round nine match review: Dale Thomas referred to tribunal, Mumford and Parker escape bans image

Carlton veteran Dale Thomas has been referred directly to the tribunal for abusing an umpire during his side's loss to GWS on Sunday.

Thomas allegedly made comments towards umpire Michael Barlow in the third quarter, with the tribunal to sit on Tuesday evening.

Elsewhere, neither Shane Mumford or Luke Parker were suspended for separate incidents in round nine.

Travis Varcoe, Rhys Mathieson and Ivan Soldo join West Coast's Lewis Jetta as players suspended from the weekend.

Jetta has accepted his ban for for rough conduct on Melbourne's Tim Smith , while the others have yet to confirm whether they will challenge their bans.

Collingwood's Varcoe was whacked with a week for forceful front-on contact on St Kilda's Ed Phillips .

Brisbane midfielder Mathieson can accept a one-match ban for striking Adelaide's Jordan Galluci, while young Tigers ruckman Soldo was hit with a week for striking James Worpel.

GWS ruckman Mumford escaped punishment for his clumsy knee to the ribs of Carlton veteran Marc Murphy.

The Blues midfielder was taken to hospital with suspected rib damage, staying in Sydney overnight while he waits for confirmation.

Murphy had disposed of the ball when Mumford clattered into his ribs, though match review officer Michael Christian ticked off the contact.

Sydney midfield bull Parker also faced a slightly nervous wait following his team's win over North Melbourne.

Kangaroos skipper Jack Ziebell was left groggy after Parker collected him in the head with a forearm, though he was able to run out the match.

Though, given Fremantle superstar Nat Fyfe had no case to answer for his elbow on Tom Lynch in round eight , Parker can probably count himself unlucky to be fined $2,000 for the incident.

Other players fined from round nine include Marley Williams (strike on Tom Papley, $2,000), Tom Lynch (strike on James Sicily, $1,500), Tim Taranto (misconduct on Patrick Cripps, $1,500) and Patrick Cripps (strike on Jeremy Finlayson, $1,500).
