Gold Coast Suns have continued their major player reshuffle, deciding not to renew Jesse Lonergan's contract.

Playing 60 matches in the red-and-yellow, the midfielder only took the field five times this year due to a knee complaint.

The 24-year-old was selected with pick 13 in the 2012 draft.

Suns' football boss Jon Haines thanked Lonergan for his contribution to the club.

“On behalf of the club, I’d like to thank Jesse for his commitment to the club over the past six seasons, and wish him all the best for the future," Haines said.

The Gold Coast recently delisted Michael Barlow, Josh Jaska, Max Spencer and Mackenzie Willis, while veteran Matt Rosa retired.

The Suns have committed to re-drafting Brad Scheer and Harrison Wigg as rookies, alongside Veteran Michael Rischitelli.

Rookie forward Darcy Macpherson was also promoted to the Suns' senior list.

The major player movement comes after recommendations made by the AFL Commission in September.

The Commission provided the club with an additional two category A rookie positions for 2019, as well as the right to pre-list three players who have previously been nominated or eligible for the Draft or listed with an AFL Club before the 2018 draft.

The Gold Coast signed Josh Corbett, Chris Burgess and Sam Collins under the special AFL dispensation rule.

Since the club's AFL debut in 2011, the Suns have never finished the season higher than 12th. The Gold Coast narrowly avoided the wooden spoon in 2018, ending the season at 17th for the second consecutive year.
