The Adelaide Crows have suspended forward Tyson Stengle for four matches after being charged by police for drink driving.

He was also fined $2500 by the club, along with being forced to undertake a road safety education program.

The 21-year old was pulled over by police in Adelaide's south-western suburbs on Friday for driving an unregistered vehicle, and subsequently recorded a blood alcohol reading of 0.125.

It came just hours after Western Bulldogs vice-captain Lachie Hunter was charged for a similar offence, with the 25-year-old already relinquishing his spot in the leadership group as he waits for further punishment.

“Tyson continues to show remorse for his actions and these sanctions are an expression of our disappointment,” head of football Adam Kelly said in a statement.

“It is crucial that he receives appropriate education on the significant risks and dangers of driving while under the influence of alcohol, and road safety more briefly.

“We are thankful that no one was hurt and the club will continue to provide Tyson with the necessary support to ensure he can push through this difficult period.”

Stengle was remorseful for his actions and was determined to regain the trust of the coach staff and teammates.

“I know that I have let a lot of people down and I want to apologise for what were some poor decisions,” he said.

“I am determined to win back the trust of my teammates and coaches, and that starts with focusing on my training and working hard.”

He will serve the suspension once he AFL season returns from suspension, which has yet to be determined due to the ongoing COVID-19 crisis.

Stengle has played three games for the club after being traded from Richmond in the 2018 trade period.
