AFL 2020: Essendon Bombers set to pick up Jacob Townsend image

Jacob Townsend is set to be thrown a lifeline by Essendon following his delisting from the Tigers.

The 2017 premiership player was let go by Richmond at the end of last season, though according to an AFL.com.au report, the Bombers are set to give the 26-year-old a chance to continue his career.

Townsend was reportedly spotted meeting at the club last week.

It would be a third club for the pressure forward, having played 20 games in four seasons at GWS after being taken as a NSW zone selection ahead of the club's introduction into the competition.

Townsend moved to the Tigers ahead of the 2016 season, playing four games that season before five the next.

Fortunately for Townsend, those were the last five games of that season, seeing him play an important role in the grand final win over Adelaide.

The Leeton-product booted 16 goals in the run to the flag but couldn't recapture that form in the two subsequent years.

He played 10 games in 2018 but managed just one last season, leading the Tigers to opt not to extend his contract.

More to come.
