Collingwood midfielder Dayne Beams has added to the incredible fundraising effort by Australian and international athletes, auctioning off his 2010 AFL premiership medal.

The 2010 AFL Grand Final was infamously the third draw in AFL/VFL history, with Collingwood eventually defeating St Kilda by 56 points in the replay.

Beams played a key role in the victory, collecting 11 disposals in the dominant performance by the Pies.

He revealed the gesture via Instagram, with the 29-year-old looking to help out those affected by the tragedy.

"With the terrible bushfires going on and the amount of people that have lost everything I’ve decide to Auction off my premiership medal to try and raise as much money as I can," he said.

"To bid simply message me with your bid I will keep you updated through my story of where the bid is at and I’ll inform the leading bidder at the same time."

After just one hour, the highest bid sat at $13,000, with Beams forced to take the auction to an offical site after the "overwhelming" response.

The money will go to the Victorian Rural Fire Services and will be available to be bid on at the Lloyds Auctions website.

Beams is currently taking a leave of absence from the game, with Collingwood confirming that he was taking time off to deal with his mental health.

He took a similar break in July after a tough year dealing with injuries and mental health issues.

The gesture means that he joins the plethora of sports stars who have pledged to the cause, with Nick Kyrgios, Lamelo Ball and Ash Barty leading the charge.

Beans follows in the footsteps of Australian cricket legend Shane Warne, who announced that he will auction off his baggy green on Monday.

Former tennis world number ones Maria Sharapova and Novak Djokovic also confirmed their support for the Appeal on Monday, with Djokovic matching Sharapova's $25,000 donation.
