AFL 2019: Four clubs fined for breaching league's drug code image

Four AFL clubs have been fined for breaching the league's drug-testing code for failing to update their players' post-season location.

Under the AFL's drug-testing code in association with ASADA, clubs are required to provide up to date information regarding where each player is for out of competition testing.

Whilst players are given an app in order to pinpoint their location for testers, it's the club's responsibility to ensure that the players are regularly updating their whereabouts.

"The AFL advises that four clubs have been sanctioned for a breach of the AFL’s rules relating to player whereabouts information," the league said in a statement.

"Under the operation of the AFL Rules, it is the club that is sanctioned for the failure to provide complete up-to-date whereabouts information for its listed players for testing purposes.

"AFL General Counsel Andrew Dillon said all clubs needed to constantly ensure that whereabouts requirements were met at all times."

Carlton heads the list of clubs found guilty of not doing so, having been fined $10,000 for the breach.

Reigning premiers Richmond was hit with a $2,500 fine along with having to pay a suspended $5,000 fine after a similar incident in 2017.

The other guilty parties include Melbourne ($5,000) and Western Bulldogs ($2,500).
