Saints fan favourite Jack Steven returns to training after taking mental health break image

St Kilda midfielder Jack Steven is back in Saints' colours after stepping away from the game to focus on his mental health.

The four-time Trevor Barker Award winner took personal leave in late February to better his mental health and wellbeing.

It's understood that Steven returned to training with the Saints on Friday at Moorabbin.

The 28-year-old was also seen sporting Saints colours ahead of the club's 14 point victory over the Western Bulldogs on Sunday.

Helping the club with their prematch preparations, Steven was spotted on-field with injured midfielder Dan Hannebery, Nick Dal Santo and Danny Frawley.

When Stevens will add to his 176 games-played tally still remains up in the air. However, it's understood that he has kept up training loads while on leave.

In a statement released by the club in February, Saints football general manager Simon Lethlean said Steven had the full support of the club.

"Jack's decision to put his hand up and acknowledge that he needs some time away is a brave one," Lethlean said.

"He is a much-loved member of our playing group and has the support of all his teammates, his coaches and all St Kilda supporters."
