North Melbourne have announced that midfielder Aaron Hall will be stepping away from the club to deal with his mental health.

The 28-year-old has taken an indefinite leave from football, the Kangaroos confirmed on Friday.

"Aaron has our full support as he works through some personal issues," North footy boss Cameron Joyce said.

"Aaron has indicated he needs to spend some time away from the club, to focus on his personal well-being and his family."

Hall has played 109 AFL games, six at the Roos since joining the club from the Suns at the end of last season.

The Tasmanian was dropped to the VFL after round six before suffering a knee injury in the reserves last month.

"The club and players will do everything to ensure Aaron is supported during this time, and knows he can take as much time as he needs," Joyce added.

"We trust that Aaron’s privacy will be maintained and that people respect his situation and understand how difficult and brave this decision has been for him."

Hall's decision comes just two days after Collingwood star Dayne Beams announced that he would be taking some time away from the club to deal with his mental health.

Beams, who also switched clubs over the off-season, was sidelined with a hip injury, but confirmed on Wednesday that he would be taking indefinite leave from the game.

"I have been on the record in the past about the battles I have fought. Right now, I need to step away and regather myself," Beams told the club website.

"I hope people will understand that this is something I need to do for myself and, importantly, my family. Our wellbeing is the highest priority."
