Premiership Swans great Jude Bolton has detailed the hilarious story behind a hilarious run-in with Red Foo from pop band LMFAO in Los Angeles that inspired the outfit's mega hit 'Champagne Showers'.
Speaking on Triple M's Dead Set Legends, Bolton reveals how a boozey night in a now-removed LA nightspot on Sunset Boulevard in which Bolton sprayed the crowd with expensive champagne was the inspiration for the international hit.
“In 2010 we took a small, elite crew over to LA and through Vegas," the two-time premiership winner said.
“Seven or eight of us, so Jarrad McVeigh, Josh Kennedy, Ben McGlynn, Shane Mumford, Martin Mattner… in LA we’d been out one night chatting to a few people and they go ‘tomorrow night, Sunday night is just an epic night, it’s one of the best nights in LA’, a place called ‘14’ it’s now moved on but it’s right on Sunset Boulevard.

“So we all turn up the next day in shirts just all done up to the nines… they go ‘OK you gotta buy a booth because you got seven or eight guys there’, so we had to buy a booth and get in there so it was a three-grand minimum to get this booth.
“So we roll in and they go so what would you like to buy… they said there’s probably going to be some girls coming over to the booth you should get some champagne, and I just go OK, a bottle of Dom Pérignon, $750 USD!
“Anyway so it comes along and we sit there and the place has just started to heave, in the space of about an hour we’ve gone from just nothing to just being packed, it was just amazing, incredible night.
“So we’re rolling and there’s a booth spare next to us, now this booth suddenly gets filled up by a band called LMFAO… they’re sitting there pouring shots into our mouth and that sort of stuff and we were having a huge night carrying on.
“Anyway, I was getting that excited I actually picked up Brent Staker… I picked him up and I actually broke his ankle I was that excited, I lifted him up and shattered his ankle jumping up and around, but anyway that was just a side story!
This is clearly a night I will never forget. In hospital at 4am getting scans🤣 I lived to fight another day 💪🏻 https://t.co/1FqUPmI94N

“We’re sitting there looking at a bottle of champagne that nobody’s touched and I go to our waitress and said can I spray this over the crowd and just crouched down below the desk after she’s radioed through to management and goes ‘yes’.
“And I get up on the chairs like Scotty McLaughlin at Bathurst and I was just spraying it across the entire crowd and there’s Nick Malceski with a glass catching it off the roof, this Dom Pérignon.
“Anyway, six months later when we get back, this song (Champagne Showers) comes out. We’re all going that’s about us, how fun is this, just carrying on.
“And then Redfoo, the guy who was on X-Factor and those sort of things, got asked where do you get inspiration for your songs and he goes ‘You know, Champagne Showers I was in LA one night and I had this wet feeling on my shoulders and I turn around and there’s this crazy European guy standing on top of the couch spraying champagne everywhere!’
“And that is me my friends!”
Red Foo then confirmed the hilarious story on Twitter, saying "Omg I couldn’t believe it when that ice cold champagne hit my back! I turned around like WTF! And I saw this guy spraying the whole club like a crazy person .. it changed my life for ever!! So much so I wrote a song about it!"
