Cowboys vs Broncos: Kotoni Staggs, Jesse Arthars make light of coronavirus outbreak with hilarious hand sanitiser try celebration image

As the NRL strengthens its protective measures against the coronavirus outbreak, it appears Broncos players have gone the extra distance in monitoring their personal hygiene.

Players have been advised to not shake hands to prevent the spread of germs, so Kotoni Staggs and Jesse Arthars performed a hilarious hand sanitiser try celerbation in Friday's match against the Cowboys.

In what was a see-sawing first half in the XXXX Derby at the Cowboys' brand new Queensland Country Bank Stadium, Staggs crossed for the Broncos second try to put his side in front in the 20th minute.

North Queensland looked as though they had the Brisbane centre covered on the right side, but Staggs stepped inside to create a passageway top the Cowboys' line.

He lost his footing, but the 21-year-old stumbled and crawled his way over the line to make it 10-4.

Staggs then leapt up, turned to Arthurs and put out his hand and exchanged imaginary hand sanitiser before shaking hands and hugging.

Watch the celebration below!

As far as celebrations go it was no doubt one of the most bizarre we've seen, and it's fair to say the punters were very entertained.

Whilst it may not quite be as hygienic as the real thing, NRL officials will be pleased the Broncos players have preventative measures in the back of their minds.

The league has bunkered down amid the global outbreak, announcing all games from round two and beyond will be played behind closed doors.

It followed a national ban handed down by the Australian Government advising against non-essential mass public gathering of 500 people or more from Monday onwards.

Hours after the NRL's announcement, it was reported two Cronulla Sharks players had been sent home from training showing flu-like symptoms, with one being tested for COVID-19.
