NRL Coronavirus: ARLC chairman 'buoyed' after meeting NRL broadcast partner image

Australian Rugby League Commission (ARLC) chairman Peter V'landys was "buoyed" by the support of an NRL broadcaster as it aims to resume its season.

V'landys met with Nine chief executive Hugh Marks on Tuesday as the NRL looks to restart its campaign on May 28 amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Nine, an NRL broadcast partner, recently slammed the league's financial management amid uncertainty over clubs due to coronavirus.

But, in a brief statement on Tuesday, V'landys was optimistic after his meeting with Marks.

"Today Nine CEO Hugh Marks and I had a constructive and cooperative meeting about rugby league in 2020 and beyond," he said.

"I am buoyed by Mr Marks' support of rugby league and his commitment to the game.

"The meeting provided us with the opportunity to outline our positions and discuss next steps to navigate this crisis.

"We are both focused on the long-term success of the game and while there is more work to do, I am optimistic we will find a way through this together.

"Our next meeting, where we will endeavour to construct a road map for the game this year, must include Foxtel CEO Patrick Delany."

It comes after Prime Minister of Australia Scott Morrison praised the NRL's ambition in its bid to restart, but insisted it would receive "no special set of arrangements".
